Fisrt thing people look at when they see this is the price. £80 is quite a lot compared to brands such as Lite-on which retail for about £40. Previously I have owned a Lite-on and chucked it for this one and i dont ever regret it. Firstly, while the instructions are minimal, they do get straight to the point on how to install and setup. You get all the cables and screws you need to set it up(only single channel IDE cable tho), so no probs there. Secondly, it doesnt have DVD copy protection issues such as the Lite-on drives (my old drive couldnt play the Matrix and Star Wars 1/2!). It comes bundled with PowerDVD which is an excellent piece of software and gets you started, when coupled with a SBlive/Audigy platinum soundcard you get true Dolby Digital surround sound which rocks. Reads CDs at 40x(6,000kb/s, 80ms acess time) and DVDs at 12x (16,000 90ms access time). Only hiccup I have found is that the drive wont eject sometimes because it is busy when it shouldnt be but windows detects this quick and pops up asking if you want to eject, it could just be down to my setup! All in all I am very pleased with it and it is worth the extra money over the cheaper brands and I am 100% sure it wont fry itself after a year like my last one!
